Open Mind was founded in 1969 by Dean Blackwell, a college student with a passion for individuality and community. What started as a small head shop in Hattiesburg, MS—specializing in bell-bottom jeans and tie-dye—quickly became a local hotspot for self-expression during the counterculture movement.

Over the decades, Dean’s vision grew alongside his career. Now known as Dr. Dean Blackwell, he has transformed Open Mind into a trusted provider of high-quality medical marijuana products, combining his entrepreneurial spirit with a commitment to health and wellness. Open Mind proudly carries forward its legacy of creativity and care, rooted in its colorful beginnings.
